Installation Guide

for Lead Follow-Up Database Script 1.08

Step 1 Unzipping the downloaded file
Unzip the downloaded file onto your Desktop. Find a folder named web. You will use the folder in later steps.

Step 2 Setting up email configurations
Configure email settings so the script can send emails. To set up email configurations, open web/config/config.email.noify_follow_up.php in a text editor. Please read explanations for each email configuration and set them up. You need to configure at least Hostname and From.

Hostname is the address of your mail server. In most websites, Hostname is localhost.

Set an email address of your domain to From. For example, if your domain name is www.mydomain.com, From could be info@mydomain.com.

Save config.email.noify_follow_up.php.

Step 3 Setting up database configurations
Open web/config/config.db.inc.php in a text editor and find the following code :
define( 'DB_HOSTNAME', 'Your Hostname Here' );
define( 'DB_DATABASE', 'Your Database Name Here' );
define( 'DB_USERNAME', 'Your Username Here' );
define( 'DB_PASSWORD', 'Your Password Here' );
Please replace the highlighted text with your Hostname, Database, Username, and Password.

About Hostname, Database, Username, and Password.
If you have installed any scripts that use MySQL, it may be ultra-easy for you to figure out what those values are. If this is the first time, however, you may be scratching your head or pulling your hair out ( or maybe both? )

Don't feel bad. This step is truely a pitfall that we have all fallen into at least once.

First, slow down, relax, and take your time. All other steps are easy and this is the only step where you need to think a little longer...

Here is a page where I explained each of them in more details. The page will help you figure out what Hostname, Database, Username, and Password are. Check it out!

Save web/config/config.db.inc.php.

Step 4 Uploading script to your website
Upload the web folder to your web site. You can rename the web folder name to any name you want. In this guide, we assume you keep the folder name intact.

Step 5 Running the installation script
Open web/install/index.php in your browser and click Setup button. After finishing the installation script, remove web/install folder to avoid a security risk.

Step 6 Setting up Cron/Task scheduler
web/staff/notify_follow_up.php sends follow-up notification emails. Run web/staff/notify_follow_up.php automatically once a day. To do so, set up a cron job ( if you are using a Linux server ) or a schedule in Task Scheduler ( if you are using Windows server )

Step 7 Adding staffs to the database
Open web/staff/index.php in your browser. This is the admin panel where you can search, view, edit, and delete staffs. Enter admin and password for the username and password, respectively.

Click Staff from the top menu. To add a new staff, click Add New, fill out the form, and click Save. Repeat it until you add all your sales staff to the database. Do not try to add any leads now because you can't. To add leads, log off as an administrator and then log in as one of staffs you registered.

Step 8 Entering leads
Open web/staff/index.php in your browser. Log in as one of staffs you registered in the previous step. Click Lead from the top menu. Click Add New and fill out the form. To receive a follow-up notification email, enter a date in Follow-up.
